Time in Christchurch -

Located in the Ferrymead Heritage Park in Christchurch, New Zealand, it broadcasts a variety of music spanning five decades, from the 1930s to the 1980s. It is the only station in Christchurch that plays vinyl LPs and 45s, along with 78 rpm recordings, tape cassettes and CDs. It is a rare resource for any person or group interested in learning more about New Zealand's music history and seeing an earlier radio station at work, one based on an era when the AM band was the only frequency of radio in New Zealand. See Milestones in Recording History

The station normally broadcasts from Friday at 8.00am until Monday midnight and from 8.00am to 6.00pm during Statutory and Christmas/New Year Holidays. The studio is open to the public on weekends between 10.00 am to 4.30 pm. Tours can be arranged at other times upon request from interested groups. The unique quality of Radio Ferrymead lies in its accessibility to its audience, the Canterbury community. It is run entirely by volunteers who have a genuine interest in broadcasting good listening music. The station is funded only by donations and sponsorships.

Tourists and locals alike enjoy viewing the radio station, the announcers on air, the record library (which contains over 60,000 records) and the Museum of Sound and Radio, which houses the world-class Dini Phonograph and Gramophone Collection. A technical workshop which is a replica of one which might have been in use in the 50s is also open to public viewing.
