New Announcer

Allan Winslade is the latest addendum to the announcing staff of Radio Ferrymead. A Southern boy, Allan attended Waitaki Boys High School where he developed his musical interests. This led him to participation in repertory and operatic societies in Dunedin, mostly backstage. From active membership in a tape recording club, he jumped to working Wednesday evenings behind the microphone of Radio 4XD, a private radio station run by volunteers.

Sometime after shifting to Christchurch over thirty-five years ago, he heard about the newly formed Ferrymead Radio Preservation Society and their need for volunteers and immediately enlisted. In 1998, he was elected Treasurer, a position he still maintains. After he retired from full employment last year he found more time for RPS and brushed up on his announcing skills to become a regular announcer. Allan Winslade’s wide range of musical tastes will regularly bring his voice to many of Radio Ferrymead’s current variety of nostalgic music programmes.

Planned New RPS Building

Architect's concept sketch of the new building to house the RPS' Museum, Broadcasting Studios, and Workshop, expected to be completed mid-year. The building will be located in the Ferrymead Heritage Park Township.

Interested?

We are looking for a few volunteers to join and become involved in our Radio Preservation Society. If you enjoy the history of radio, music, or things technical, whether you are male of female, we may be able to use your skills in our Society. It may be with the Dini display of early music players and gramophones, telephone answering, radio presenting, or in our radio recycling and technical workshops.

If you have an interest in any of these areas, please use the RPS Membership Application Form on the MEMBERSHIP page on this website and send it to The Secretary, Radio Preservation Society, P.O. Box 19090, Woolston, Christchurch 8241.
